South Salt Lake City Council At-Large (2-year term)

Hi, I'm Ray - and I'm running to continue serving on the City Council because I believe in the power of community, thoughtful leadership, and building a future we're all proud of.

With my experience on the council, I’ve seen firsthand what we can accomplish when we work together. From revitalizing our downtown and expanding affordable housing, to investing in public safety, and celebrating our local culture—I’ve helped move our city forward while keeping its small-town charm intact.

I’m not just a council member—I’m a neighbor, a youth sports coach, and a committed advocate for our community. I care deeply about where we are today and where we’re headed tomorrow. With your support, I’ll keep working to make our city safer, stronger, more vibrant, and more connected.

Let’s keep building a city that works for everyone—together.

Collaboration  Competence  Care

Moving Forward, Together
Smart growth. Strong Community.

As someone who is currently serving on city council, I am commonly asked what it takes. I've summarized it into 3 C's, which is what I believe I offer.

Collaboration - nobody knows it all. I believe the best decisions come from listening to all voices. I work closely with city staff, fellow council members, businesses, and residents to build consensus and move forward, together.

Competence - as an HR leader in addition to 6 years of local government experience, I understand how to navigate complex issues, ask the right questions, and drive productive conversations.

Care - you must care to do this work, because it gets hard. There can be long hours, in-depth research, patience finding common ground, and difficult decisions. The best representatives are the ones who show up and want to make a positive difference.

About Me

Born and raised in Midvale, Utah. My wife and I moved to South Salt Lake in 2016 when we purchased our first home in the Riverfront neighborhood.

I served on the Planning Commission in 2016 before being elected to my first term on City Council in 2017 - 2021. I am currently filling a vacancy and am seeking to earn your vote to continue serving you. During my tenure on the council, I worked diligently to serve the residents and businesses of South Salt Lake.

Community
I believe a strong city isn’t just built with roads and buildings, it’s built with connection, creativity, and care.

That’s why I’ve proudly championed our Arts Council and supported events like Muralfest, Craftoberfest, and other celebrations that bring us together and showcase the spirit of our city. These events don’t just entertain—they strengthen our identity and create spaces where neighbors become friends.

I also partnered with the city to launch a financial literacy center, giving residents the tools to build stronger financial futures and make informed decisions for themselves and their families.

And I’ve consistently supported improvements to our parks, bike lanes, and public spaces—because when we invest in places where people gather, move, and play, we invest in the health and happiness of our entire community.

Housing
I understand a lot of people have concerns over housing affordability and home ownership options. I believe in thoughtful, balanced growth that meets the needs of both current and future residents. That means supporting a mix of housing options—from single-family homes and townhomes to high-density developments in areas where they make sense, like near TRAX and other transit hubs.

Homeownership matters. It builds stability, strengthens neighborhoods, and gives people a deeper connection to their community. That’s why I advocate for projects that create opportunities for ownership; while also ensuring we have affordable options for those just starting out or looking for something different.

Our city thrives when everyone has a place to call home. I’ll continue to champion housing solutions that reflect our values, support our growth, and help all of us residents and future neighbors alike build a life here.

Public Safety
I voted to increase pay for our public safety personnel, ensuring we attract and retain the best talent to protect our community.

I’ve supported investments in infrastructure like streetlights and traffic improvements to make our neighborhoods safer and more accessible for everyone. Feeling safe is often the number one priority for people who live and visit our great city.

We've made positive strides, and I'm committed to continuing the journey.
